Cat Hargis and Black Cat Glass began as a second career after spending 15 years training television News Anchors and Reporters.
One of the only people in the world to specialize in International News Training, Cat was the exclusive trainer for the BBC in England, Scotland, and Ireland for 6 years. Most recently, she was the exclusive trainer for Al Jazeera English in Qatar, helping put the network on the air. Her worldwide travels have taken her to stations in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Argentina, Egypt, Singapore, Africa, and many more.
I have been an art lover and collector for most of my life and my international travels have allowed me to see a variety of art throughout the world. From African masks and shields to the flow of Indonesian batik silks, all influence and contribute to my style.
Because my mother was a science teacher, some of my earliest memories were of geodes, agates and fossils. I am still filled with wonder at the variety and beauty of these stones. My recent works combine natural stones such as agate, labradorite, jasper and druzy into the patterns of the glass so as to create pieces that are flowing with a natural, organic feel. Because I am very tactile, I usually incorporate raised glass into the final piece. This gives the piece a sense of texture, making it pleasant to touch as well as adding dimension to the appearance.
Having been a trainer for so much of my life, I believe in the importance of education in whatever path you choose. I continue to attend classes and fine-tune my craft whenever possible.
